Good morning,

I purchased a Maverick XLT from Long McArthur and it’s being shipped today. I have to register it in Massachusetts and the insurance company says that you need the title. Partially financed so how does that work if the bank holds the title. Any thoughts?

Thanks

In NY the way it works is that you get a title, but the title has a lien on it from the bank. Once you pay it off, you get a note from the bank releasing the lien.

Read this: https://www.mass.gov/how-to/apply-for-a-registration-and-title-for-a-vehicle-purchased-from-a-dealer

Has your dealer provided you with your truck's certificate of origin?

You will bring the certificate of origin along with your bill of sale, front and back copy of your MA driver's license, and your RMV1 documents (stamped by your insurance provider) to the RMV to register your truck.

At the time of registration you will need to pay sales tax of 6.25% on the purchase price plus approximately $135 in title and registration fees followed by a $35 state inspection.

You don't need the title on a new vehicle purchase. It doesn't even exist until the vehicle is registered and the RMV creates it. Your insurance company may be assuming it's been previously registered since it's coming from out of state. Then, you would need the out-of-state title.

The sales documents will suffice (purchase agreement and odometer statements). You'll need the insurance company stamp as well. We just deliver our sales documents to our agent. She takes care of the RMV process and brings us the new plates, or just the new registration if it's a transfer.

If you already have the dealer paperwork, you can have the registration done before the truck even arrives.
