My 2022 Maverick Eco Boost with less than 13k miles developed a significant rattle when the weather turned cold this month. It was intermittent and occurred only when:

1. I first started it up
2. I first accelerated from a stop
3. As the transmission downshifted while slowing down. This occurred only for a second as it downshifted thru each gear.

The rattle seemed to be directly under the engine or the cab area.

I jacked up the truck and looked for possible causes. After looking around and checking for loose parts I shook the exhaust pipe as it came away from the exhaust manifold above. That appeared to be the rattle.

There is a set of 2 metal support rods that help stabilize the exhaust pipe as it comes down from the engine and enters the catalytic converter. The 2 rods rest on another metal bar that is fixed. Normally this does not seem to rattle but it appeared that the colder weather caused it to rattle.

I cut a small rubber 'grommet' out and it fit directly over the area of the 2 rods where it touches the fixed metal bar. This appears to have stopped the rattle. After a few days I checked to see whether the rubber was affected by the heat from the exhaust. I saw no affect on the grommets.

Has anyone else had a rattle like this develop on their Maverick?

Not on a Maverick but other vehicles, yes.

Just make sure the rubber is high temp and it'll be fine. As long as there is not other excess play and everything on the manifold side is secure, the rest is pretty much on the weight of those metal rods. They should be welded in place.

Mine just did this the other day when it dropped down to 17 degrees F. Will be implementing your fix. Good info.
