After waiting 17 months for my Maverick, I finally picked it up on 3/18 and have put about 3,000 miles on it. Here are my comments on it so far.

Build: Lariat Lux Hybrid BAP- Atlas Blue

Pros:
  • Looks - I love the look of this truck especially with the BAP. I didn't think it would make much of a difference but it all adds up.
  • Sound System - While I agree it could be louder, it is much better than my 2018 Rav4
  • Gas Mileage - I am averaging about 37-38mpg so far which is about 10 mpg better than the Rav4 and the range is better also.
  • EV Coach - This has helped me increase my MPGs and be a better hybrid driver.
  • Truck bed - While it isn't the largest bed, I haven't needed anything larger so far.
Cons:
  • Road Noise - With the music up it isn't an issue, but the brake system and road noise is loud when the radio is low or off
  • AC System - I've seen some say that it gets cold quickly, but I've experienced the opposite. It takes forever to cool down and the AC vents are terrible. The locations of the vents make it hard to really get a comfortable setting and the fact that the left/right adjustment is also the open/close is a dumb design decision.
  • Rear Legroom - I was expecting more legroom based on what people have said, but I'm 6'2 and in order for someone to fit behind me while driving, neither one of us would be comfortable. My Rav4 had more legroom as well as my wife's Camry.
  • Gas Mileage - Yes I listed it in the Pro's but while 37-38 is great, I was expected to regularly do 40mpg+ and I've never hit 40 on a tank, just for a trip or two. My driving is 80-90% city so I expected a lot more MPG and total range.
  • Seats - The Active X seats are soft and initially very comfortable, but not for long trips. After about an hour or so of driving, my lower back starts hurting and my leg goes numb. I've tried to adjust the height and lumbar but can't seem to find a good position for long-term comfort. Not sure if its the seat angle or just the size of it which is a little narrow and shorter than my previous vehicle.
Overall, I like the truck but the seat discomfort is causing me to consider selling it and going back to a Rav4 or CRV hybrid. I like having a hybrid truck but the biggest selling point initially for me was being the cheapest hybrid on the market, the truck part was just a bonus.

If anyone has some tips to help with the seat, I'd love the input. I considered seat covers, but I don't know if that alone will solve it. I also wanted the Active-X seats because I have two dogs and its easier to clean the hair off of them vs cloth.
Sorry about your issues! I'm older, 6'1, got a new ish( 22) CX 30 Mazda. LOVE the car, NOT drivers seat. Stitches causes (for me at least) very uncomfortable middle lump. Ordered quality seat cushions/lower back support. Problem totally solved. Worth small cost try!

Yeah I'll probably get a seat cushion. I usually have seat covers but that's with cloth seats. I got the Active X seats to avoid needing that

What mode you drive in? Do you use ev coach? I drive mainly city 7000mi in over all avg 42.9. Best tank I’ve got is 618mi @ 44ish mpg. I can get 60-70mpg certain times for my 11 mi drive to work. 🤷‍♂️

I picked up my Maverick last week. The drive home was 150 miles frommid Michigan to mid north Indiana. The truck ran great and at 47 mpg in Eco setting, I was very happy with the hybrid drive train. I did think the brakes were a bit touchy though.
So far, I like what I see, and am injoying the insights that this group provides. thanks !

What driving mode do you usually use? (Remember, these Mavs default to Normal at ignition.)

I have the XLT Hybrid. My wife & are only 5'7" so we don't experience anything negative regarding leg room like you do at your height, nor do we have regular passengers in the back seat, so that hasn't been an issue.

Regarding mileage, we regularly get between 45-53 MPG in the city. We always drive in Eco mode. Lowest we have gotten is 43 one time, and that was following my trip to load/haul gravel for a home improvement project.

We've had zero problem with any road noise, even with the radio off. Doesn't sound bad at all in our opinion.

Our AC works great. Cools very quickly.

We haven't done a long trip yet, so I can't comment on the comfort of the seats for a long trip. But in our normal local driving, it has been very comfortable so far.

Overall, so far our expectations have been exceeded in just about every aspect.

As someone mentioned earlier, I think a lot of the numbness in the leg is from the seat being too short and not as much the cushion although it could use more. My legs stick off too much from the end of the seat and I believe that is what causing the leg numbness after about an hour of driving. Unfortunately that's not something easily fixed.
