I've been tracking my Maverick with the rail car number (TTGX986576) since it shipped on the 4th. It was scheduled to take just at two weeks with an estimated time of arrival "at industry" (which in my case is the Chicago Heights ramp) to wait for transport. The date has bounced forward and backward a couple of times over the last week as it's gotten closer, but last night the Union Pacific automated tracking system went straight to "bad order". I googled that and it looks to be about as bad as it sounds:

"Bad Order - A freight car loaded improperly, mechanically defective, or has safety violations."

Has anyone run into this in tracking their rail journey?

FWIW, I've learned more about trains in the last two weeks than I could have imagined 😂

Railroads and car owners don't like bad order cars sitting around. When sitting, the car isn't making them any money.

Could just be that a FRA inspector found something they didn't like and ordered the car fixed. Dealt with that a lot, while I was on the RR.

FRA= Federal Railroad Administration.

I've learned they don't go anywhere directly and they sit in rail yards a lot🤨

Understatement of the year!

The RR I worked for was very much a "Hurry up and get the cars outta here!" Type of operation. It may have had something to do with the fact that we didn't have any extra room for cars to sit around.

The bigger RRs didn't seem to care all that much.

Mine sat in a railyard in Indiana for 3 days. Today I checked it's in Chicago. It's weird how it follows the line. Went a state North which is weird considering final destination is East (Maryland).

Actually I was enthused that the rail car part of the transport made it so quick :). The part that is taking so long is the truck transport and the inability to track that! I have the load number, but there's no way I've found to even find out which auto transport is being used to get it from Benicia CA to my dealer in Reno NV.:(

Sounds kind of like mine... Mine went as far north as Illinois, just to head back south to South Carolina...

As of this morning, the status changed to "placed for bad order repair". At least that's progress :)

Since I am also in SC and heard from my dealer that my Mav was sitting at a rail yard in southern IL, I love to hear how you are able to track from there. Have you received yours yet? If so, how long to ship from IL? What was your est date of arrival?
Edit: Just saw some of these answers on your profile.

A bad-ordered rail car could simply have a defective hand brake or issue with air reservoir.

Just because it has been bad-ordered, that doesn’t necessarily mean the rail car has been set out along the way.

It could continue with the train until that car is empty and can be directed to a mechanical facility for repair.

Rail cars are bad-ordered everyday. Not always a big deal.

It was originally scheduled to be at the destination ramp on the 18th. They bumped it up to the 16th, but it's been at the yard center since it got bad ordered. The status still says loaded. I'm optimistic that it'll start moving again today :)

Mine said moved to repair track yesterday. Today it's back to bad ordered, still in Birmingham ALABAMA! Someone on facebook said they say it still on the car.

So "Bad order" is the opposite of "in good order"? A problem with the rail car not whatever it's carrying.

I also got bad order for a couple days, different rail car, but same station (a Union Pacific rail yard in Illinois near Chicago). It fixed itself eventually and just today left the yard. At first I was really worried it got damaged or dropped or something, but I guess it’s happening to most others in this thread as well so nothing to worry about I hope.
