I've never owned a mobile phone. I do have an iPod Touch though. Can I use it to play my music in the Maverick via Bluetooth or cord connection?

Should be able to do either depending on the gen of your iTouch

Not with a cord, Maverick has no Aux input.

Looks like all but 1st gen ipod touch have bluetooth.
iPod Touch 2, 3, and 4 having Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, and the iPod Touch 5 and 6 having 4.0.
