I have a question about replacing the tires on a 22 Ford Maverick lariat hybrid, I was wanting to know if there was any difference in going from a 225/60 R18 up to a 235/50 or as much as 255-265/50.

I have always loved the look of a 50 series tire but my question is now more of LT tires versus passenger car tires. I was noticing that for obvious reasons the passenger tire is a lot cheaper than the LT tires, but does it make a difference with the Maverick hybrid?

I’m not trying to modify the suspension, and I’m not in a position change out the rim/wheel at this time. So these new tires will be on the original factory lariat rim/wheels. I don’t really load down my truck with much when I haul things and the most I’ve had on the trailer has been a zero turn. The primary use of my maverick is commuting back-and-forth from my residence to my place of work. I have larger trucks when I need to haul or tow things.

I'm no expert but it seems like the 235/50 is just going to look small in the wheel well. A 245/55/18 would fit better but the sidewall would still be the same as stock so it may not be what you're looking for. 255/50/18 seems like it would be cool but it's an odd size with limited offerings and its pushing the rim width.
You should save a few more pennies and hunt down this guy's set up.

I went with 235/55/18s but have since decided to swap them for 235/60/18 because the 55s look small.

Maverick doesn't have the payload capacity to justify LT/Load Range E tires. Standard Load and eXtra Load are more than sufficient. Especially on a Hybrid you'd be adding a lot of rotational mass to deduct gas mileage.

Thank you this is the main information I was looking for!!!

I was hoping the Goodyear Assurance tire would be ok to use and they aren’t a bad looking tire

LT Tires can be 20-30lbs more per tire and will affect milage and handling.

Your gas mileage will go down changing from 60 to 50 side wall height

If you really want a 50-series tire you need to go to 19" or 20" wheels. Keep the tire OD the same as stock, or within a few %. 245/50-19 are perfect at 28.7" dia. Even 235/50-20 would be OK at 29.3" dia.
