My Maverick is couple of weeks old and has about 170 miles on it:

Ford Maverick Question about breakin period and mileage... gauges

As it shows in the image, the mileage is 15.7 MPG mainly in city traffic. The "auto start/stop" is disabled since I don't believe it should be active for the first couple hundred miles or so.

Initially the MPG started out around 10 or 11 MPG and gradually increased with time to the point where it is now. I don't have a "lead-foot", well, et least not not until the first oil change around 800 - 1,000 miles. Presumably, this will increase with tie rather mileage, correct?

Btw....

My previous truck had been an F150 from '98, having a keyless entry is awesome. No need for remote hitting the numbers on the window frame, just grab the handle that unlocks all the doors and the tailgate is too. the little bars on the handle lucks up the doors.

Question...

Does locking as such activates all of the security protection?

TIA...

Yes, your FE will increase with miles, warmer weather, and summer gas. Your driving style & road conditions always play a major role. This would typically be the lowest FE you'd experience, as a new engine, cold weather, city driving, and winter gas. You'll see quite a change by this summer.

As to the specifics of the security system, prolly worth pulling out the manual, so you get a good explanation of how everything works.

Thanks for answering the first question... as for the second question...

My Maverick has two security systems, "passive anti-theft" and "anti-theft alarm" system. The passive one is activated, when the engine is stopped, while the other requires locking the doors.

Page 85 of the manual does state, quote:

ARMING THE ANTI-THEFT ALARM
SYSTEM

The alarm is ready to arm when your
vehicle is switched off.
Lock your vehicle with your remote control
to arm the alarm.
The keyless entry does state that it locks the doors and the tailgate, but does not mention anything about the alarm system. on page 76 of the manual. The actual manual is from September 2022, first edition.

Maybe there's a difference between two separate ways locking the vehicle, maybe there isn't. That is what I intended to verify.

Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) aka SecuriLock, is an engine immobilizer. Basically, there’s a microchip in the key. If that chip is not recognized by the vehicle, it won’t start. Even an exact copy that’s not programmed into the trickle vehicle won’t start it. This isn’t an alarm, it just keeps the vehicle from being started. This is integrated into the intelligent access key fob on your Lariat.

The factory alarm activates automatically when you lock the vehicle and walk away.

I picked my EB up a couple of weeks ago. I noticed from the screen shot of your dash that it may be that no one has so far filled your tank up. It's possible my observation is nonsense, but it is possible you need a complete fill up to make the computer get it's bearings. My salesman filled mine up for me, it had 9 miles on the odometer, I took a photo before I drove off the lot. I experienced the same thing you did, the mpg at the beginning was very low, maybe even less than 10. I drove home over 70 miles and the mpgs went up incredibly slowly. I think it was to 25+ by the time I got home, but it was mostly highway driving at at 55-60 mph. In several days I drove the same kind of driving and got 27.6 mpg on that first tank. I've not filled up since then, but the computer is showing 29.7 mpg. I think you will be okay, driving around in town won't help you set any records, plus the cold weather won't be your friend, but I think you'll eventually see better numbers. Also, I use the ECO setting most of the time. Good luck!

I've got my Mav with four miles on it and a full tank of gas. While it seems a lot, I've sold my old truck with little more than half a tank of gas that was more than the full tank of gas in the Mav. The buyer paid list price, didn't even try lowering the price, despite I was ready to knockoff 250 - 500 bucks.

By now, the gauge show 16 MPG with in town driving, that's 40% better mileage than my old truck was. And that was the main purpose in getting the Maverick. It'll serve the purpose what I need it for...
