I’ve been toying with the idea of adding puddle lights to the Mav since my newer fords all come with it. I tried looking up wiring diagrams but couldn’t seem to find any. I removed the 3rd brake light and noticed the cargo lights were simple black and white wires. I removed covers on the door sill both sides and didn’t seem to find these wires so I tapped directly on the wires at the 3rd brake. Now my lights dim on and off and can override with the switch without having to add any non-factory switches.
Onto the installation, I began popping covers left and right trying to determine the best spot. I began on the drivers side I decided on a spot under the rails by the B pillar. The liner on the underside has some square tabs, I removed one of them and sure enough a whole going into the cab. From inside there are grommets by the seatbelt tie down.
So on the drivers side it was a breeze, once I got to the passenger I hit a wall, so going from the under side up, there are 4 layers of sheet metal I had to drill thru and from the cab outward there were 2 layers. I carefully drilled some pilot holes to avoid drilling into anything electrical. The next hard part was pulling the cable thru as I didn’t want to make the holes bigger than the cable. For the rear, I made a bracket to go under the tow hitch. I used riveting nuts to be able to use 1/4-20” bolts.
