I’ve been toying with the idea of adding puddle lights to the Mav since my newer fords all come with it. I tried looking up wiring diagrams but couldn’t seem to find any. I removed the 3rd brake light and noticed the cargo lights were simple black and white wires. I removed covers on the door sill both sides and didn’t seem to find these wires so I tapped directly on the wires at the 3rd brake. Now my lights dim on and off and can override with the switch without having to add any non-factory switches.

Onto the installation, I began popping covers left and right trying to determine the best spot. I began on the drivers side I decided on a spot under the rails by the B pillar. The liner on the underside has some square tabs, I removed one of them and sure enough a whole going into the cab. From inside there are grommets by the seatbelt tie down.
So on the drivers side it was a breeze, once I got to the passenger I hit a wall, so going from the under side up, there are 4 layers of sheet metal I had to drill thru and from the cab outward there were 2 layers. I carefully drilled some pilot holes to avoid drilling into anything electrical. The next hard part was pulling the cable thru as I didn’t want to make the holes bigger than the cable. For the rear, I made a bracket to go under the tow hitch. I used riveting nuts to be able to use 1/4-20” bolts.

Those lights don't come with any mounting bracket? They're meant to screw right onto something?

How big are they end to end? Thanks!

Well done!

I wish the Mav had the option for the spot & puddle light mirrors like the F150. I LOVED that feature, mostly for the spot lights. Super handy for those of us who live in BFE. 🤠

The lights have two mounting holes and come with a rubber pad if needed. On the side skirt, I tapped a 10-32 hole on one side, on the other there is a hole on the truck so I used a nut and 10-32 screw to fasten it to the plastic skirt.
They’re about 3” long

I looked at mounting some on the mirror but didn’t feel like removing the door panels and fishing thru the wire grommet on the door. With this method tho, the light stays under the doors even if you open the front or rear door. It like you said, spot lights would be great too
