I was surprised to see so many pictures of rusty exhaust pipes and mufflers. Never saw this on my very inexpensive Toyota Tercel (240k miles). Was wondering if painting the exhaust pipes and muffler with high temperature paint would extend their life or if it would some how cause an issue with either the function or warranty. Welcome thoughts or expert opinions on this as I live in the rust belt.

I'm from the deep south, so I'm talking out my rear end here, but I don't think there is much for it. When the Army sent me to scenic Ft. Drum, I took vehicle through an undercarriage wash once a week. I think the best thing for it is just to stay on top of it. Salt will eat the paint as well.

Would exhaust rust be covered by warranty? Or would it need the extended coverage?

My guess is there will be an aftermarket stainless exhaust soon out. No idea about the paint. I wonder too if it would help,,, Buffalo NY here.
