I've been reading through the PDF owners manual, and on page 189 and 190 it has a section called "ALL-WHEEL DRIVE LIMITATIONS", and " ALL-WHEEL DRIVE – INFORMATION MESSAGES ". I've put the excerpts below for what I'm referring to. When you put the spare tire on, it turns off the AWD system, this makes me wonder if running a set of aftermarket wheels and tires that change the overall tire diameter from stock will cause issues and make the AWD system turn off.

" ALL-WHEEL DRIVE LIMITATIONS Using different size tires other than the provided spare could cause system damage or disable the all-wheel drive system. "

" ALL-WHEEL DRIVE – INFORMATION MESSAGES: AWD OFF: The all-wheel drive system temporarily turns off to protect itself from overheating or if you are using the temporary spare tire. "

I would think this is due to tyre diameter. And the need to run that 4th tyre ant a different speed (rpm) than the others, so it makes sense. OTOH 4 matching diameter tyres would present no problem save speed/mpg calcs

This is what I'm hoping for. It would make sense to turn off the AWD if you were running one lopsided wheel to limp it to a shop or home. But as long as all wheels are rotating at a similar speed the computer shouldn't be able to tell any difference.

I don't foresee a matching set of aftermarket wheels/tires causing the issues you're reading about.

Changing the diameter from stock, on all four corners, should not present any issue. If you go up to say 31" tires all around and ever need to put on a ~28" spare, you could possibly run into the above mentioned issues from having 1 tire with a significantly smaller diameter. Just play it smart if you ever need to run a different size spare, and make sure it's as temporary as possible. Better advice would be to match the diameter of your spare tire to the diameter of your aftermarket set.

every single AWD system is like that, heck some are so sensitive that will throw a code if you wear tires of different thread pattern even if they are the same diameter, so nothing worth talking about it here.

It's certainly worth talking about. The OP wanted to know if a different size all around would cause these issues, we've all clarified they should have no major concern by simply changing all of the tire's sizes at the same time.

The potential for issues will come from running 1 odd size in the event that they need to use the spare and they don't have access to a spare that is close to their aftermarket size.

I assume, assume, the system disables whichever pair is imbalanced. Front or rear. The obvious solution is have at least a same diameter tyre.

What I meant is he intended(i think) to say that there might be issues if you get aftermarket wheel/tires sizes, which is not true as long as you mount the same tire in all wheels, as far as the spare being of different size that normally is only used for shorts periods of time to get you out of bind so you should be fine without the AWD during that time if it gets disabled.

Again all AWD systems work this way, it is nothing new nor a reason for concern, also before someone says what if it happens when you are out in the trail off-road, remember this vehicle is a city sleeker and equipped as such not intended for anything more than a dirt road on the way to the cabin.
