My wife and I spent a week in Puerto Vallarta over the thanksgiving holiday. I took a handful of random pictures of smaller trucks we encountered across common truck brands. I saw a total of 4 Mavericks, and interestingly they were all Lariats. Some other observations:
  • VW small truck was clearly the smallest in terms of body size, and usually were a single cab configuration;
  • Saw lots of Toyota tacomas and hillux's both (but not a single tundra)
  • Nissan trucks are far more common than in the US
  • The Dodge adventure looks good in person and looked to me a bit smaller than the Maverick
  • There are still lots of gorgeous VW vans and bugs going strong

Thanks for posting!!! Time for a "MAVFLEET" Trim version. 3 cyl (?2?) Phev 60mph 6-7ft bed. FYI I am turning 81 in March and am making my maverick (aka 1985 FULL SIZE) do instead of waiting for a true small pickup.

Everybody thinks it is safety rules, but actually we don't get those primarily because the brilliant EPA published mpg rules based on vehicle footprint. These are perverse incentives, which our government specializes in. "Let's save gas by incentivizing OEMs to build larger vehicles because the rules are less stringent the bigger you get".

Citation - multiple sources. I recently watched a senior Toyota executive talk about this in a Motormouth interview in Japan. Also "Alex on Autos" did a video explaining it. You can Google it yourself with "why doesn't the USA get small trucks"
