The Vehicle: 2005 – It was the highly anticipated new retro-design Mustang. Ford couldn’t keep up with demand.

Now- The new Maverick truck.

Ordering: 2005 – The only option was through a dealer. I went with a local dealer I had used before.

Now – Reservation made through the Ford.com site, and then officially ordered through the dealer.

Ford Communication: 2005 – Through the salesman, who never had any idea when my car might be built.

Now – Emails from Ford for the order confirmation, and scheduled production date. My current salesman has never had any additional information except to look for emails from Ford, although he did arrange for me to test-drive a Maverick they had in dealer stock.

The Outcome: 2005: The dealer didn’t fulfill my 2005 order, and it was switched to a 2006 order. A year after ordering, there were no hints of getting the order fulfilled. From internet forums, I learned that some people were getting their cars a couple of months after ordering. Some dealers had loads of Mustang allocations, and others (like mine) did not. I cancelled my order and twisted the dealers arm to get my deposit back. I ordered the Mustang from a dealer across the country who was selling loads of them. Two months later, it was shipped from the factory direct to another local dealer (for an extra fee), where I picked it up. It ended up taking about 15 months from first ordering, to getting the car. It turned out to be a great car.

Now: Still waiting. A September Ford email stated it was scheduled to be built the week of 11/1. There have not been any update emails that showed it was being built, or it was delayed.

The Numbers: 2005 – 160000 Mustangs (up from 130000 in 2004).

Now: Some reports show 6755 Mavericks produced in October.

Lesson Learned: 2005 and Now: If you have read the threads on this forum you will see people who ordered their Maverick and received a build date a couple of weeks later. Others placed orders in June and have received nothing so far. Finding a dealer with allocations seems to be the key.
