About ready to pull the trigger on the NSA complete system for flat towing my 25XLT. Have a couple questions for those that have broke trail.

Blue Ox or Roadmaster base plate? I’ll be installing myself and would like to know which one is easier/better.

Integrated braking system or not? I like the idea of the simple surge type braking system, but I’m pulling with a heavy class-A with air brakes and a Jake. Either way, I’ll use the NSA emergency breakaway system. I think the Mav may crowd my GVW, but I’m not worried about excessive brake wear as I drive like an old man and know this thing will stop if necessary.

I did Blue Ox as with my many previous installations.. The install went as expected. I've installed many of my own baseplates. This one was not challenging. It did involve thought, a lot of time, and skinned knuckles.

I would ABSOLUTELY advise getting the [more than you need but, no, you need it] Blue Ox Apollo. Don't go cheaper. Don't go less.

Works great.

When the obligatory comments about who has the best equipment lead to allegations of an accident with this towbar or that baseplate, know that if someone reports a problem with Blue Ox, I can counter with virtually the same issue with Roadmaster or any other vendor. Allegations of problems are pure bull poop. All have failed at some point, in some scenario.

I installed the Roadmaster base plate on my 2023 XLT, which like the Blue Ox requires removing the lower active shutter vanes. The Demco baseplate does not require removal of any vanes. The Demco was not available when I installed my baseplate or I would have gone with it. I have a Roadmaster Falcon All-terrain tow bar and use a RVI2 supplemental brake. I also tow a 2006 Jeep Liberty so the portable brake works best for me. I now have right at 22,500 miles towing the Mav with no issues.

I’ve used blueox in the past but chose RoadMaster for my 25 Maverick AWD Hybrid with a nighthawk towbar and never looked back I’ve towed it nearly 4000 miles since jan 2025 and it’s the perf setup
