Howdy,

I did not see a particular introduce yourself thread pinned, so I guess this is the way to do it.

I live near and work in Columbia South Carolina. I've never had a pickup truck before though I grew up with them. My father was an F-150 guy (and my earliest memories include his yellow F-100). Every time I car shopped, I always looked at pickups, test drove pickups, priced pickups... and always got something else in the end. Usually because of pure cost - I just didn't need a pickup enough to justify the higher price they carry, and the capabilities to cost always made something else the better choice at the time.

As my current car comes to the end of it's life, I started shopping around for its replacement. As always, I looked at pickups because having something with a bed is sometimes very handy. And this time, I found options. The result was that it made sense to get a small pickup this time (for reasons I'll put in the Why are you buying yours? thread). When I was investigating the Maverick, I found this group, and it provided (and continues to provide) a lot of useful information. So, I joined.

Welcome. There is a TON of great info on here if you are handy with using the right keywords in your search. And it is only getting better as time goes on. The Maverick may be entering its 4th production year, but it is still the "wild west" for a lot of topics!

Pro Tip: The integrated search on this site sucks. As it does on most forums. I find best results by going to Google and searching "xxxxx (replace XXXX with your search terms) site:www.mavericktruckclub.com". Then google will show you only results from this site. Works really well.

I should have also probably mentioned: I'm still on the fence about a few options for this thing. I keep eyeing the soft-close tailgate device that was available on the 22-24s. But it means losing the functionality of the tailgate tiedowns if I ever want/need to haul something bigger. On the other hand, I'll be opening and closing the gate a lot more than I will ever use those tiedowns.

Another thing I waffle on is tonneau or no-tonneau and, if tonneau, which kind. They aren't cheap, and I don't like spending money on pure aesthetics (hence no paint colors that cost extra were considered). It could be really handy in a couple of circumstances - I have two dogs who will occupy the back seat if they are with me, in which case if I also have significant luggage/cargo, it'll need to go in the bed. In bad weather, the tonneau could help protect that stuff. Second argument for it is the added security of a hard cover if I have to travel with the dogs and overnight in a motel. Arguments against it are mostly cost. However, I also don't like the idea of losing visibility when the Mav doesn't have great visibility to start with. I'm also not sure about popping it off if I need to do pure truck stuff with the bed.

Hello and welcome to MTC. The dampened tailgate has other drawbacks, such if you want or need to remove the tailgate. Because aftermarket you can wait to see if it's something you need. The tailgate is light for me it's no biggie. That doesn't mean it won't be for you.

You didn't mention spray in bedliner. It serves two purposes. One it helps keep the beds paint from scratching and exposing metal and thus preventing it to rust prematurely. Two it helps to keep everything sliding around and that could be you if a little frost and your in the bed loading or unloading.

Definitely get a tonneau cover. I opted for a hard trifold through Amazon. I think it was like $360 delivered. Took a few minutes to figure out and install. Definitely was a lot easier then expected. A lot of videos out there to help walk you through it. I opted for the hard one it wasn't that expensive ordering through Amazon. Two a lot of good reviews on the site along with Amazon. Third many with soft tonneau covers complained of noise from flapping. Fourth it adds security to the situation. Fifth if I want to do truck things a portion or all can be easily folded up or completely removed. Sixth I live in Northern Michigan I don't have to shovel snow out of the bed. Seven keeps things from blowing out of the bed. Eight it keeps snow and majority of rain off what I have in the bed. Best of luck with your decision.

I bought a dog something cover for the entire back seat. So the tonneau cover offers room for luggage, groceries etc.

Just like the dampened tailgate you can wait to see if you want or have a need for a tonneau cover at a later date.

If you decide on a Ford Maverick best of luck with your new truck. I think you will enjoy it, I know I have enjoyed mine.
