Mystery object found under steering column

Found this on the floor after a trip that included travel on some bumpy road.
It's fairly dense foam, about 3” long, 9/16" wide, and 1/2" thick. The impression appears to be made from something approximately 1 1/8" diameter. Doesn't appear to have affected anything not being where it belongs.

Any ideas what it is?

get yourself a lighted bore scope. fairly cheap, very handy, wifi connection (it's own) to your phone screen.
