STOP/GO not working. I get a message "engine running to charge battery". What's up? I would think bad battery or a bad alternator. Getting a hard time scheduling maintenance as I require a rental as stated in my extended warranty. This will be my first maintenance visit. So far not impressed. I get told the maintenance supervisor will call me to schedule my truck. Also, side airbags still not available for replacement recall.

Normal behavior to disable autostop automatically when the battery charge is low. Why it's low is the question.

You're not actively going to be denied a rental but it's going to create a timeline that is not going to work out in your favor. No one has many rentals because used cars are worth too much and too expensive to insure and replace a small fleet. This is the way things are going to be for the foreseeable future.

As to the why..

Check the battery terminals for a good connection. You can have the battery tested for free all most autoparts stores. If it's bad then you decide if you pay out of pocket or you figure out how to go a day without it, or you request a loaner and see if it becomes available before your battery dies.

Does the Enterprise or other rental lot near the dealer not have something available for the coverage amount of your ESP at the dealer’s negotiated rate?

I’ve had dealers try to turn me away even before the market went upside down because they didn’t have any of their own loaners available. When I pointed out they didn’t need to have a car of their own available, the ESP paid for a rental and it looked like Enterprise had availability right up the road, they were able to arrange everything for me.

Not sure how much it covers off hand and you might have to pay the difference if it’s not enough, but you don’t have to wait for the dealer to have a loaner pool car available.

They probably thought I was asking for a free loaner at first; never hurts to clarify that the ESP pays for a rental.

Cold weather is hard on batteries. I've noticed the Start/Stop feature runs more consistently during the summer than the winter.

As for the rest, just go to the dealership. It's harder to ignore someone standing in front of you. Many dealerships have a handful of courtesy vehicles if yours needs warranty/recall work.
