Wife and I have returned to Green Valley, AZ, USA from our winter in Álamos, Sonora, Mex. I am seeing quite a few Mavericks in parking lots in the last 2 weeks. I would estimate 8 or more in every color imaginable. However, there are still none for sale locally (Nogales, Tucson, and places between), nor rentable locally. My wife has seen good and bad reviews and would really like to test drive one herself now. So, I posted this thread on a Neighborhood forum for my town:

You folks that purchased a 2022/2023 Ford Maverick Pickup Truck. How were you able to find one to test drive? Where can you test drive one or rent one, locally in Southern Arizona?
Word on the street is the MY2024 order banks will open up for these in the 2nd half of July for Oct production. However, my wife would like to test drive one before we order. They are never in stock in Nogales, Green Valley, Tucson.
I've seen at least 8 different ones here in Green Valley. Did you all just bring yours down from the north?
I saw that's it's possible to rent an XL hybrid from Phoenix on some days... About a 5 hour round trip to rent a vehicle for 4 hours. Not sure how that will compare with the XLT EcoBoost AWD 4K Lux Sunroof RearSlider that I'll want to order. But it will still give us a feel for roominess and utility of the vehicle.

You can check on Turo as well. It's an app where you rent people's cars. I rented a Maverick for a couple days last year just to try it out because I couldn't find one to test drive around me.

Inside is just a bit roomer in a Maverick then the Ford Ranger. If you want to feel what the inside feels like Rangers are easier to find.

Went to CarMAX in Tucson AZ.. where I test drove a 2022 XLT Hybrid w/ 12k miles. It had three options: a bed tray liner, rubber floor mats, and a rear slider window. If it were 2023, it would MSRP at $26920. In 2022, it would have been closer to $25000 having predated two price increases. CarMAX was offering it for a $38,998.. so just a modest $14,000 over MSRP w/ 12k miles.

This one had allot of dust on all of the glass... It hadn't moved in a bit. Didn't matter.. I was there so that my wife could test drive one... No intention of buying it. Even though I will get an EB AWD w/ the 4K tow, I figured test driving this would give my wife a feel for the Maverick. We took it out for a 30 minute drive at highway speeds and on lesser maintained city streets.

Some things stuck out in her mind:
The bad:
1. The white dash and door panels looked like a porta potty.
2. The orange was weird.
3. The brakes were very grabby, throwing her forward in her setbelt just before the car stopped.
4. The dash and windshield seemed to rattle alot.
5. the plastics will scratch easy
The good:
6. It's fast.
7. It handles well.
8. besides the dash rattles, the rest of the truck was very quiet.

When we got back, I expected high pressure from the sales team... When we got out of the truck, my wife says... there are rattles and creaks coming from everywhere in the interior.. and your used price is $14k more than the new price, despite all of the mileage. Salesmen said "So, I guess it goes back to the parking lot"... I said, "Yes, where the glass can collect more dust... and oh.. have the recall done on the brakes, that thing is going to bruise someone in the chest." No pressure and we left...

So was it positive? Absolutely... My wife actually liked the truck... she thought,
1. surely a MY2024 will have had allof the squeaks worked out that the MY2022 had.
2. we won't have a hybrid, so no grabby brakes.
3. MY2024 will have different interior options or we will get the BAP, so no porta-potty white or orange to worry about.
4. The suspension was very quite and it handled well.. acceleration was incredible.
5. we measured all of the dimensions of the back seat in the Maverick and her CRV. (back seat room is a concern of ours)... at the Seat: Maverick 51", CRV 52".... at the shoulder, CRV 53.5", Maverick 55".
6. bed of the maverick is 8.5" narrower than my Frontier and 9" shorter. So, not that much smaller, and anything big would be carried in an aluminum pull behind utility trailer.
7. she found the seating position, visibility, and meanuverability to be good.. she was particularly impressed with the tight turning radius when doing a full 180 deg turn.

she prefers the Honda Ridgeline for overall finish, but the price difference and fuel economy difference favors the maverick for purchase. we also looked at a Santa Cruz and her thoughts were, holy blindspots and it looks weird.

I'm glad we had the opportunity for her to test drive this maverick today, even if not equipped exactly as we would have it. I've sat in a brand new Maverick, but to test drive one with 12k miles was good. It really does squak and rattle from the windshield and dash with some age... even on a hot day (it was 95 degF today)... hope they have those interior noises figured out by MY2024.

thought is we will go ahead with a MY2024 order as planned when the order banks open up....
