Hi Dave,
New truck is done and being shipped to dealer. So should have it in a few weeks. However, still haven't found a competent local shop to do install of baseplate and tow bars. Ones I've talked to seem to be relying on their "suppliers" feedback (i.e. those who want to sell them something) rather than their own experience and knowledge. So not overly confident they really know what they're doing or taking about, hence the additional questions/concerns I have below.
Here is what I've pretty much settled on. Can you please confirm the part numbers, as I've called etrailer and gotten different answers, depending on who picks up the phone.
1. Tow bar - Roadmaster Nighthawk All-Terrain Tow Bar w/ LED Lights - Non-Binding - RV Mount - 8,000 lbs, part number # RM-676
2. Baseplate - Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms- part number # RM87NQ
3. Roadmaster Accessory Kit for Nighthawk and Sterling Tow Bars - Tail Light Wiring - Lock Set RM-part number #9284-2
4. Charge Line - Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles - part number # RM-156-25
While I think I have the above figured out, I still have a couple of questions, that hopefully you can assist with.
1. Why is the charge line needed? the local shop (again, not much confidence in them) claims they have talked with their retailer reps and say it not necessary?
2. the "Accessory Kit" above doesn't seem to include the actual 6- pin connector, just the bracket that the 6-pin goes in? or does it? if not what is needed there? What's on my Motorhome is a standard 7-pin plug.
3. Braking system. Still very much on the fence here. Considering two possibilities.
4. Are there any other parts needed to complete install? My concerns center around avoiding dead batter issues, need for constant 12v power for toad vehicle and/or what ever braking system used.
5. Since I live in Fl, same as you, do you have a recommendation for an installer? As this is outside my comfort level and skill set?
Thanks in advance
Scott

* Demco Stay In Play Duo - One local shop "swears" they have talked with their Demco rep and have "confirmed" that the Stay-n-Play Duo has been tested with the hybrid regenerative braking system and is 100% compatible and won't have any issues. Given their position on the need for a charge line, I have my doubts. Any thoughts on this would be helpful.
* Roadmater Invisabreak - Same concern w/r/t the regenerative braking of the hybrid.
SPECIAL NOTE - local shop claims that the Stay In Play is a "Proportional" braking system which applies the toad brakes in relation to how hard the motorhome is braking. Where as the Invisbraking system is "Progressive", meaning it applies the brakes by increasing amount of braking as a function of time with no regard for how the motorhome is actually braking, just that it is. As as such to avoid any braking problems they say I need to use the Demco Stay In Play.
