Just imagine how much bigger the engine in the red truck is. By my careful calculation it has at least a 3 foot stroke. Ford is only here today because they got more than 75 hp out of it.

According to Wikipedia, the 1949 F-6 was available with three engines: 3.7L flathead 6 with 95 hp, a 3.9L flathead V8 with 100 hp and a 4.2L flathead 6 with 110 hp. Not huge engines and not much power. I’m guessing fuel economy wasn’t great either.

The key to life for that era of COE‘s was torque and the gearing….. horsepower not so much. What a great shot of the two Fords and the comparison. Thanks
