Got it on October 13th... Decided to take it for a drive around 7:00 p.m. that night on some country roads near where I live. Getting used to all the controls and the feel and handling of the truck. My old truck was a Honda Ridgeline. So just getting used to the feel of a smaller truck. I drove out past Nicasio reservoir and then decided to turn around and head back. As I was coming around a bend at about 45 miles an hour, all of a sudden there was a deer standing in front of me on the road! I literally made a V around the deer with the Lariat! All these things went through my head in a split second - oh it's Friday the 13th and I'm going to crash my new truck! Don't smash into the embankment! Don't go over the edge of the road! I do not know how it is that I did not hit that deer. But I did not. And the Maverick handled unbelievably well! I don't think the tires even squealed. And it held on to the road like glue. I am extremely happy with the way it handles! I feel very confident in it now. The mileage is almost twice what I was getting in the Ridgeline. Love it!

Well Done!!!!!

I almost totaled my '14 Volt last January hitting an especially nice 10-point buck at 5am on the way to work. I had deer-whistles all over my car, but the rascal jumped into the middle of the road from the bank and bam! It was the 3rd one I'd hit (hence all the whistles) an the first hit in four years. The airbag did not deploy but there was still $6K worth of damage. We do have a large deer population in our area.

I'd like to think the Mav would be even more survivable, but I hope I never find out! I have deer whistles on the Mav just in case. In 6 months I have had a few close calls but no hits yet. Fingers crossed for all of us!

By the way, I waited for Honda to make a Ridgeline hybrid since 2006. I gave up and ordered my Mav 2 years ago last month. It was worth the 18 month wait, in spite of factory and dealer shenanigans.

I recently shot a nice buck crossing an open field. He stopped when I whistled. That is a common deer hunter trick! If having the whistles makes you feel better, good deal. You are happy and Barnum is looking down from above with a big smile on his face!!:):):)

You may be "whistling in the dark"!!! ;)
