I would think the large majority of test drivers are VERY careful driving them. At or under the speed limit, no break slamming, no jackrabbits, heck they probably kick their boots before they get in lol
LOL. When I test drove one, the salesperson at the dealership told me he only had one rule for my test drive. I asked him what it was, and he laughed, "Drive fast!" Well, I took him up on the offer, jumped on the highway and saw what that little turbocharged 4 can do. This little truck has some impressive get up and go for its size! Loved it; didn't want to bring it back. When I saw Ford was cutting off order this week, I called the dealership and placed my order immediately!

I don't see any incentive for Dealers to offload their "Demo's". People are still going to be looking at them for the 23MY and if the dealer has a demo onsite it would probably be a benefit.
I guess that depends on the changes for MY23. If the changes are pretty major (doubtful) then it would not make sense to continue demoing the MY22. Besides, I am sure there will be new demos for the MY23 as well. I am sure they can mark up these demos $10,000 or more and have no problem moving them for folks who do not want to wait another year to get one.

my brother just got into a Mustang MachE fully loaded for about 7k off MSRP because it was a demo model used for test drives. Had to wait till it hit 4K before it could be sold to him. 4K miles could also be an internal number dealers use? Possibly allowing them to get another demo model but only once a vehicle hits a mileage threshold?
Well, that's what he told his wife anyway. It sounds better than "Hey honey, I just found a Mach E, used but low mileage. Because it's used we won't get the $7500 tax credit, so the dealer is going to take $7500 off MSRP!"

He paid the same as people who ordered their car and aren't paying any ADM, but he got the same deal. What he also did is he took a car with 4k miles on it instead of paying a $5000 dealer markup on a new unit.

Mach E's and Mavericks can be had off the lot if you are willing to pay $5k or so in Additional Dealer Markup. I put the word out to local dealers that I wanted a Maverick hybrid and found at least one per day that was available if I would pay the markup. Some wanted $7500 and one said $10k, but most of them were priced 5K over sticker, and no X plan available so their fees are higher.

If you really want a Maverick and can't wait for an order to come in, $5k isn't that bad a deal - there were only a few Maverick Hybrids available for sale used nationwide on Cars.com yesterday and they were generally $10k over sticker, and these are used units with 200-1200 miles.

I believe the reason they like to run the cars up to 4000 miles is that that is the sweet spot on the depreciation curve they are using when they write off the value loss on their company taxes.

As someone who believes that break-in periods matter, I would not be eager to buy a demo model that’s been hammered by test drivers. Unless, of course, I intended to sell it within the warranty period.

That said, I know that many people don’t think that the break-in period is actually important, so hopefully they can get their hands on a truck before too long now!
What IS the break in period? My first new truck?

I agree with the 1,000 mile break in, meaning just don’t jump on it constantly. Drive it the way you need but not 4k+ RPM’s. But that is sort of old school and may be unnecessary with today’s builds. But I still change the oil at 1,000 miles, again old school but at least I’m consistent ;)

Nah, most people slam the throttle down to get to the speed limit on a demo. They're going to want to get a feel of its capabilities. That's what I do NGL.

I just contacted the South Carolina State Police. Expect a knock on the door soon.

Allows the buyer to see the equipment that will not be included on their 2023.
