I haven't bought a new car in 25 years. I always buy a used car and run it till it dies. This is the first new car in forever. I want it for towing my little trailer, so I am getting the 2.0 liter gas engine and tow package. The trailer weighs 2700 lb, so I should be fine as far as towing capability in the truck. I checked the tongue weight and should be good there too. What I am wondering about is - will the Maverick depreciate as there is more pressure to move to low emission vehicles? Ford is already making a hybrid version of the F-150, what is the chance they will come out with a hybrid version of the Maverick in a few years that can pull my trailer? The current hybrid version can only pull 2000 lb. If technology is changing rapidly, maybe it makes sense to lease it so that I can upgrade in a few years without having to worry about steep depreciation because its gas? But if I plan to keep it a long time I think I would be better off buying. Decisions Decisions! My credit union is offering 2.99% loans on the purchase of new vehicles. Any thoughts?

If they have something to say about the future of automotive technology and how that relates to lease versus buy I'd love to hear it. If its just the standard lease versus buy discussion, meh.

The future of automotive technology has nothing to do with leasing vs buying.

What I really want is A plug-in hybrid with a 50 mile electric-only range. Only the Volt meets that spec and it was canned in 2019. in hopes of a PHEV Maverick I thought about leasing for two years instead of buying. But then I already have a car completely paid off that gets 40+ MPG so now I’m debating taking delivery of the 2022 Maverick I ordered and instead waiting for a future edition that is PHEV or all-electric.

I really need the 4k towing capacity, so I need a hybrid that will pull that much. Nothing available today except the Ford F-150 hybrid. But I can't afford one of those :-( And I don't think that is a plug-in hybrid.

Yes it is...except your house plugs into it!
