I haven't bought a new car in 25 years. I always buy a used car and run it till it dies. This is the first new car in forever. I want it for towing my little trailer, so I am getting the 2.0 liter gas engine and tow package. The trailer weighs 2700 lb, so I should be fine as far as towing capability in the truck. I checked the tongue weight and should be good there too. What I am wondering about is - will the Maverick depreciate as there is more pressure to move to low emission vehicles? Ford is already making a hybrid version of the F-150, what is the chance they will come out with a hybrid version of the Maverick in a few years that can pull my trailer? The current hybrid version can only pull 2000 lb. If technology is changing rapidly, maybe it makes sense to lease it so that I can upgrade in a few years without having to worry about steep depreciation because its gas? But if I plan to keep it a long time I think I would be better off buying. Decisions Decisions! My credit union is offering 2.99% loans on the purchase of new vehicles. Any thoughts?
