Labored Engine Noise

Hi all. Yesterday I test drove a 2024 xlt and the engine sounds like it's under more load than I would expect to hear. It's a low, resonant, consistent sound. The dealer found no codes or reason for alarm. I drove another 2024 with the xl trim level and while it wasn't quiet, the low resonance, under load, sound was not there. Has anyone noticed this sound or had driveline (or any other) problems that would present with this sound? Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks for your help.

Did both of these Mavericks have the same engine in them? The hybrid engine configuration has a speaker in the engine compartment which makes artificial noises when driving below a certain speed (35mph maybe?). I believe this was federally mandated in the last couple years for any hybrid/electric vehicle, as otherwise pedestrians and bystanders wouldn't hear the vehicle when in electric mode.

My '25 hybrid makes a bunch of fake noises when driving around town (not counting the backup dinging when in reverse). If you're in a hybrid, you can easily hear those artificial noises both inside the cabin and outside by pulling to a stop, listening for the artificial noise, then put it into park and the noise will stop.

OP's profile says ecoboost.

The ecoboost doesn't have the fake sound because it doesn't need it. It makes its own noise.

If the 2 liter EcoBoost doesn't sound like it will disintegrate at any moment, you should be worried. It just doesn't sound good at any point.

We haven't seen many engine failures over the past 3.5 years. Maybe a handful...
