Who else here think they need to fix collage football? From the opening outs, to the nil, and the transfer portal. Me personally I think they need to stop all this. It's getting to be more like pro then amateur. What happened to the scholarship being there payoff. Where does it stop. There's high school coaches here in Alabama getting paid more than teachers. I guess education isn't that important anymore

It is great that the players can finally get a piece of the nut that coaches and admin become millionaires from. Very few players become professional so they should absolutely get paid when their school uses their talents to make money. Not everyone gets a scholarship too. As for high school, not all states value their teachers the same and it shows.

Maybe the coaches, shouldn't get paid millions. I always thought the education was more important. They really need to put the money back into the college it might not cost an arm and a leg to send kids to school. Here in Alabama they go crazy about high school football. My kid is going to play for Alabama, my kid is going to play for auburn. Ask them what there grades are . crap!

Definitely. Our culture has seemed to lessen the import of education. I teach high school special education at an urban school with mostly black and brown students. They rarely see how education can pull them out of poverty, but they constantly see how athletics can despite the data on both.

I'm torn about it all. There is the argument that the student athletes, at least for football and basketball, bring a lot of revenue to the universities. Why shouldn't they get a cut of that? But then again, I don't believe state universities should be for profit. Regardless of their official standing, they most certainly are at this point. And of course as stated already, this has an effect on high school students and prospective athletes.

The transfer portal changes have kinda ruined bowl games though, CFP aside (great games last night!). I watched my team yesterday play without the majority of their playmakers due to transfers and some to NFL draft. Granted they fought hard and it was a good game, it was not the case for other bowl games. See Ohio State putting up 3 points total...

what had happened was it was already big business, players where already getting paid, it was just under the table. Everyone except the player getting rich off it was a problem and it needed fixing. And being a CFB player is a full-time job, the degree will be shitty because they don't have time to actually study.

Frankly, you shouldn't have to put up with a lifetime of CFB injuries just to go to college in the US. And why exactly should someone who is fast and tall get to go to college instead of a smart kid?

I hear you on the changes in college football. It does seem like things are shifting, doesn't it? Reminds me of the shifts in Manchester United's lineup sometimes—it takes getting used to. But you know, change can be tough, especially when it feels like traditions are being altered. I remember when my old high school coach used to say, "Adapt or get left behind." Maybe that's where we're at with college football too.

Over 50% of the players have been getting "paid" for about 75 years. The $200,000 in free tuition, room and board, books, lab fees etc. is payment! And please don't say "but most of those players don't use their degrees". If they don't, that's on them. It's an insult to all of the students and families who to pay for college to say these players aren't getting paid. One study showed that when taking into consideration practice time, travel and games, the players make over $150 per hour for their time. Tell that to a student making $14 per hour at a part time job.
