I forgot, your right no struts. Did you have them installed because the hood was to heavy to open?
I installed them because it's nice to not us the hood prop. Nothing about the hood is heavy.

I've heard people have issues with the hood popping open properly so they use this:

I want to thank you for posting your solution. I ordered the spring, it arrived today and I installed it. Works like a charm! The only thing that I have to remember is to make sure the hood is really closed. I thought I had but the hood opened causing the truck to alert me that the hood was ajar. No problem, I closed it with a bit more umph and that solved the issue. Usually a solution costs a lot but this was both simple and inexpensive. Now my hood opens as intended with struts. Thanks again, it saved me from taking out my struts!

Hood struts don't really break the latch, but can keep the hood from popping up on its own in a fashion to advance the staging of the two-stage latch. That's why some add a hood spring; Jeep ones are pretty easily sourced cheap.
I just added the spring and that solved the issue.

I put mine on the other bolt, and don't have any issues/worries pushing it down into place. Either way works I suppose, glad to help!

Installed my MRT struts the other day, and followed advice I had read to back off the bump stops at the front corners of the hood. This seems to - at least so far - avoided any issues with popping the hood.

It also improved hood alignment, suggesting that the stops were not correctly aligned by the factory. Perhaps this is a cause for those folks whose hoods get stuck... 🤔

I have the RedLine Struts. No problems. Hood opens and closes fine. I carry canoes on the roof so I open the hood a lot for the bow lines. The hood struts work well for me as I can't open the hood enough to use the rod when the canoes are on top. Had RedLine Struts on my Bronco Sport for three years. No problems there either.
