I looked at 3 different Mavs (lariat hybrid, and two XLT awd ecos) with July 23 production dates and none of them had the cover that you're talking about if that helps.

It is a FWD Echo Boost. It arrived new without it but I am unclear on "why it is not required"'
Maybe Darnon’s post is on point, maybe it’s just for FX4 or AWD components ???
