Hey all, so hand washed the Mav for the first time since getting it. I noticed these vanes on the intercooler inlet and wondered if they are motorized since half of them look closed. They don’t seem to open easily or open by the wind rushing in. Has anyone removed these since it seems they block half of the intercooler?

Those are the active grill shudders which are motorized. They are removed when installing an aftermarket intercooler.

I removed mine completely when I installed the Velossa Dual inlets and trans cooler.

Really, when are they active?
and is there a way to remove them without damage to the mounts if I decide I want to put them back?

The open and close based on ambient temperature and they may take other factors in consideration. It helps the truck warm up faster when its cold out.

Im not sure about being able to reinstall. For they hybrid recall they just cut them off.

They close for improved aerodynamics at highway speeds, and also at cold start to warm the engine faster. (Not sure what the required temp is.) Eco mode closes them all the time.

If you delete them you should leave the actuators plugged in to the harness. Otherwise, you'll get a service engine light. This is a popular mod on other Ford ecoboost models, if you can't find a good video that is Maverick-specific I'm positive you'll find it for F150, etc.

At highway speeds is when it should be open, more air going through the intercooler.
Ill just pull them out. Like you said leave the actuators.

when cruising you are not making boost. therefore, don't need air drag going through the intercooler. as soon as you stomp the gas to pass, they open.

there are shutters above this over the radiator also. same reasons and usage, except they're not always shut by eco mode. (of course not, lol.)

I'm getting ready to install my intercooler and fog lights at the same time and was thinking about doing away with these all the way up. So for the radiator did you just pull the veins out and leave everything else in? Thanks.
