Living in the rust belt, I didn't want to deal with the stock lug nuts expanding due to rust, so I replaced them. I noticed the rims on the BAP were not painted around the seating area of the rim for the lug nuts. I wanted the rims to be fully back so I bought flat black barbeque paint and painted the silver parts of the rim, taking care not to paint the taper area where the lugs seat. I used a funnel to avoid painting any part of the rim that is black already.

I think it came out pretty well.

I also included a picture of the inside of one of the rims that was pretty rough, it looks like it got scratched or something.

I like dark lugs on painted wheels too.

I had bought some one-piece chrome lug nuts from Amazon for another vehicle and liked them. So I looked into getting the same thing in black for my Mav (23 XLT Hybrid). Before doing that I thought I should check the size of the lug nuts and glad I did. The replacements take a 7/8" driver while the Maverick takes 13/16". The larger lug nuts will fit the Mav but then the lug wrench that comes with it won't. However, the jack that comes with the Mav is also 13/16". So I bought a 13/16" socket to use with the jack and will use a 7/8" for the new lug nuts. Why? Well, I use a socket and electric drill on the jack, rather than the lug wrench that comes with the jack. I didn't have any 13/16" sockets, but plenty of 22mm for both vehicles.
