Its really a shame though, as only issuing ridiculously huge inefficient vehicles to cop is a purely American thing. In Germany where they have the Autobahn, the police are still generally just issued cheap efficient Opel or Volkswagen wagons. A chase well above 100mph typically ends up being more dangerous than is worth it, as at that point they just need to get air on the target and use radios.

We have a police officer a few houses down with a desk job that just works from home, he doesn't do street duty, and yet for his company vehicle they issued him a giant loaded up V8 Tahoe and I'm sure he expenses all the fuel. I'd rather my tax money have gone to hook him up with a Maverick XL Hybrid.
With what Maverick hybrids are selling for the Tahoe is way cheaper. 😜

That's cool for security, but Park Rangers need to have the Ford Ranger. It's a rule, lol.

People always like to compare things between different countries as if things are equal. Top speed really isn't much of a consideration, there's a lot of things that go into selection of police vehicles in the USA that other countries might not prioritize. And FYI, it's not THAT easy to get a helicopter in the air to track every criminal that runs from cops. And even with that, they work best IN CONJUNCTION with cops on the ground, because there are limits on what they can accomplish from the air. But back to the selection process, a lot of US police departments armor up their cop cars. They do this by adding ballistic shielding to the insides of the door panels so that cops can use their doors as cover in a shooting situation. This adds considerable weight to the cars and that's actually part of the reason why US cop cars like to be on the beefier side when it comes to motors. Also, the strength of the door-hinges isn't a "standard" thing. A lot of these cars used by other countries actually do not have door hinges strong enough to hold that added weight. Heck, the Chevy Caprice that GM brought back from the dead purely for the purpose of law enforcement and government contracts, they forgot about this aspect. I remember a local police department was going to go with them since they were rear-wheel drive and had a V8 (The Dodge Chargers they tested kept breaking down and the Ford SHO Taurus actually performed the best, was the most reliable, and the most fuel efficient, but they didn't like it because it was AWD and they would have had to retrain all of their officers on how to do maneuvers with them since they behaved really differently from the RWD cars they were used to) but when they tried to put the ballistic panels in the doors the hinges would break, lol. So they ended up going with the SHO Taurus and retrained their staff on how to drive them, lol. I can't believe Chevy forgot about that aspect when they built that car purely for that purpose...

But anyway, my point is, the criteria to choose what cars become their official marked cars are quite different between the different countries and can't be so easily compared.

Police cars aren't as much as you might think, cheaper than what a lot of people are paying for a Mav.

I spotted this one recently. I didn't recognize it right away as a Maverick. It looks different with the bed cap. It wasn't until I passed it and saw the lights/grill in my rearview mirror that I realized what it was, haha!
Ford Maverick I love a Mav in Uniform. Mav_Delivery
