I never have this problem because 90% of rocks come from the vehicle in front of you. I keep my distance for better gas mileage and potential rock chips. Now that I said this, I’m gonna get hit tomorrow from an oncoming car rock. Not saying you’re tailgating, only pointing out this is the reason most vehicles get rock chips.

I've been told that any claims you make end up affecting your insurance premiums, so even if its "free" its not really "free". I've had those bullet hole type chips tons of times over the years, and just use a $10 windshield repair kit from walmart and it becomes practically invisible.

Sucks. Here in Colorado, that's merely a right of passage. So bad that almost everyone has non-deductible on windshield repair as part of their insurance on their vehicle. And man, youcould almost swap out a windshield.

Fix it while it's still fixable and doesnt extend....cause it will with the heat cycling.

That's right. Driving mellow in rush hour or gapping with ACC really invites abuse in my experience.

Most insurers do not raise rates on windshield repair/replacements as long as your not with a super discount predatory insurance company.

My Transit Connect came with a chip in the windshield. It was driven from a Ford dealer in Richmond, VA to a Ford dealer in SC. The dealer couldn't do anything, so I went to Safelite. Three times they got a windshield in, 3 times it was the wrong one. I have Copilot 360 and the lane keeping system, which requires a different windshield due to an electrical plug at the top that plugs into the camera system on the windshield to keep the area warm so moisture won't fuck up the camera and sensor. After the 3rd time, I gave up...by that time, I was used to the chips in the windshield. I don't even see them any more unless the sun is in a certain position. Safelite customer service didn't even try to work with me. Fuck 'em.
