Which then begs the question, why bother programming an Eco setting if there are not practical benefits to be had? I know....the eighth wonder of the world! 😂
I think there probably are practical benefits for people who don't (or don't want to...) concern themselves with the nuances of everyday driving. Of course all that careful programming can also be defeated by a lead foot. Just depends on the driver and the effort he or she is willing to put into it.

Usually this is done in the name of "safety" since there appears to be a large portion of the population living in fear of every possible thing that can take them out. Sigh.....
It's for the children. It's always for the children.

I don't know if it's because of high AC usage or not but Eco mode is leaving the battery more drained I believe. so the next trip you have more ICE in the first part of your trip and worse MPG. So if you take short trips I've found Normal to be more efficient. I also got better efficiency out of normal mode vs eco on my Fusion Hybrid. You get a lot more electric motor on accelerations. Make up for it on smooth braking. On the fusion Eco has it's own dedicated button and stayed on if you wanted to leave it on. It also showed you independent power read outs of ICE and electric as well as the battery charge level.

I would think that the ECO mode provides a lot of benefit for drivers not used to a hybrid, or who are a little aggressive in their driving style. But for those that are careful and drive with the hybrid system in mind , not so much.

We had a Prius for 10 years. I always got at least 50mpg, sometimes 52. My wife never got more 42 and usually worse. Same car, same roads. I learned to drive a hybrid, she never did.
