These amber LED are tapped directly to the side marker lights. No problems, ever. Been in service 1 year now.
Which ambers did you go with? That install looks very clean and I've been looking to do the same to my Tremor.

If you're using LEDs that are designed to fool a light outtage detection they might not actually draw much less power than an incandescent. The actual LED draws less power, yes, but there's going to be a resistor to simulate a bulb.
