I'd like to get a tailgate assist, but I dislike the idea of losing that tie down point. Anyone added anything to the tailgate to assist with tie downs that aren't on the side of the tailgate by the assist?

I added this to the side with the tailgate assist so I still have a tie down:

I've seen similar, but I hear those often get caught when closing the tailgate. I wonder if using that in the other hole would work though. I'll have to look into it.

It does not get caught if you install it as I have shown.

Mine would occasionally get raised when the tailgate was lowered and would prevent the tailgate from closing.

So I moved it to the older hole the other day and have not had any issues yet.

Or just avoid all 17 problems by leaving your tailgate alone. Unless your disabled then go for it...

I tested with my arms completely full and one hand free for the latch. I had no issue guiding the tailgate down. I don't even think about it now. It's not going to slam down because I'm standing in the way guiding it down in about one split second.

I'll bet you'll need a new TA every 3 years when it wears out.
