Took some more photos before our trip this weekend. Standing about the distance of a following vehicle, I can still see the tail lights. From the other photos it looks like the kayaks flair out but they don’t.

I wanted to share my solution for transporting 2 10’ kayaks in my Maverick. I’ve seen some of the mounts and racks available to buy, but this cost about $50 in parts and the rest was scrap wood from my garage. Works excellent and preserves visibility through the rear window. It’s very sturdy and when tied down, the kayaks don’t move at all.

Thanks for the idea, finished mine this weekend!

For those asking for dimensions I used 2 5ft 2x6’s the long way and 3 25 inch 2x4’s to hold it together, then attached two short 2x4’s to fit in the space between the bed and the tailgate to hold things in. I’d recommend laying things out in the bed (kayaks included) to fit it to yours specifically.
