Hard Tonneau suggestions?

pandamotorworks helped answer a few questions and provided a quite and I have the Lomax pro model on the way soon.

Last thing I have plans to add to my 23 XLT. Excited to have it dry for later in the year.

I bought the backflip mx4 due to the security and that the exterior was powder coated unlike any other tonneau cover
No issues easy installation and I love it

I’m in the middle of installing it right now and am baffled by these pieces that won’t allow the cover to stay flush so I just removed them and it seems perfectly fine (although not sure what will happen if I run water over the cover- haven’t done it yet) do you remember during your install if these were necessary?
