Ya’ll can search ‘tonneau mileage’ or ‘tonneau fuel economy’ for reports from curious YouTubers. These are a couple of examples:

In summary. Both video's AGREE.
Better Aerodynamics WIN, with an Increase in MPG versus the minuscule weight addition of a tonneau cover. 👍

Thank's to "Weland" for posting the above videos. 🤝

I been hearing this debate for years. My personal opinion is it likely will not add or subtract from fuel mileage. I just consider it as appearance item and keeps prying eyes from viewing what’s hidden the bed.

Drag from the tumbling air in an open bed greatly exceeds mileage loss from payload weight, up to several hundred pounds of load. So covering your bed is one of the best things you can do to improve mileage, unless you want to leave the gate down. My Colorado drops from 22 to 18 mpg at highway speeds, with items in the bed that can't be covered.

You'll get worse mpg if you remove your tailgate or leave it down while driving.

Not a hardcover - but my '25 Tremor's MPG around town is exactly the same with the soft trifold on. The soft trifold from realtruck is really light and can be lifted 1 hand.
