Ill try to make this a semi short posting...
I learned of the maverick back in 2021. Looked at one briefly at a dealer in Nov 2021 but really didn't want one at that point. Decided I wanted one by spring of 2022 but obviously couldn't order one till Sept and wasn't interested in paying over sticker on one and getting one sooner.
When order banks opened I put in a order for a XLT with lux package and also a Lariat. Felt like I could be happy with the XLT, but I really felt like I wanted all the extra features of a Lariat, so ordered both figuring with constraints and so on, I might have a better chance of Ford picking the XLT for a build over the lariat. Then with allocations being a thing, I placed a duplicate order at a different dealer. So essentially I placed 4 orders back in sept. Yes I know this seems greedy, or wrong... but I felt like it was smart and didn't see any moral issues with it.
Like so many others, been waiting and waiting for one of those emails saying my truck is going into production.
Meanwhile, the salesman at one of the dealers has called me a few times to offer a truck that " came available "... but first time it was a EcoBoost and I had no interest in anything other than a hybrid. He called me a time or two more with Hybrids, but always with a $5000-7500 mark up. Had to say thanks but no thanks each time.
He called me again on June 2nd to tell me a Lariat had became available, with a $7500 mark up, but that he could get it down to $5000 over if I really wanted it I told him I would think it over because I am tired of waiting and even at 5 over I didn't think I would lose money if I didn't like it and wanted to resell it with the market being what it is today. I was close to pulling the trigger but talked to my wife first and she said NO to paying any kind of mark ups. So sadly I called my salesman back and told him I just can't pay over sticker but to keep me in mind if they come across another one or ever decide to sell at MSRP.
A week goes by and just for curiosity sake I called him to see if that lariat sold yet and he said surprisingly it hadn't. That perhaps he could get it down to just $3000 over if I really wanted it, but I reminded him the wife simply wasn't going to be ok with that. So then to MY surprise he says would I be interested in a XLT they had that just became available and I said if you will sell it to me at sticker then yes. He wasn't at work that day but said he would grab the keys and get it ready for me to come get the next morning ( Saturday the 10th )... Well Saturday morning comes and he texts me at 7:30am to say he just got to work and unfortunately that XLT sold last night, for a mark up to boot and that he is sorry. I texted him back a few hours later and just said basically I understand but how I was super disappointed, that I had been super excited about picking up that truck and finally getting a maverick, and How I had about lost hope that any of my orders would ever be built etc... And to my surprise he calls me back about a hour later and says they just had another XLT come available, not a ton of options... just the co pilot package but it was a hybrid and he WOULD sell it to me for MSRP..... Said I needed to get up there ASAP before someone else snatches it up. I told him to grab the keys and start the paperwork and I would be there in less than a hour!
So yeah... Saturday the 10th I took delivery of a Atlas blue XLT hybrid maverick. Paid MSRP plus just sales tax, tag fee and DOC fee. Even wrote them a personal check for it, and they even applied my deposit money on my ordered trucks towards the total. No funny business or hidden fees.
Been driving it the last week or so and SUPER happy with it!
Then as luck would have it, Thursday late morning I finally get that email everyone has been waiting for.... One of the trucks I have on order is going into production. Emails says its scheduled for production August 21st. I figure it might get bumped a few times, and I wouldn't expect to see it till late sept or even October but it's on its way apparently. I will take it when it comes in and sell the one I just bought. The one I ordered has the color I really wanted ( Cactus gray ) and the lux package, this one I actually like the blue color but I really wanted the heated seats and a few other things that it doesn't have.
I pretty much feel at this point the XLT is what I want. I don't feel like the extra stuff the Lariat comes with is worth the big price increase so I don't think at this point I would buy it if it came in. I am undecided what to do with the 3 orders I have that aren't picked yet for production. I could ask that they get canceled... Or I could just let them come in and let the dealer do whatever with them... or I could leave them on and if any get built, buy them and flip them for a profit. But who knows what the market will be like this fall when they would be built and delivered.
Anyway, long post but just wanted to share.
