Goop on steering column cover

Just a heads up but I noticed what looked like a greasy spot on the fake leather cover on the top of the steering column. I mostly managed to wipe it off with a paper towel but if it's still visible later I might try something else. In any event I wondered where the spot came from. I discover a part behind it had some kind of lubricant on it and the cover touches this spot. I wiped the lubricant off this area. Picture, pre-wipe, included for reference.
