I have to latch it and then put up the tailgate which is a tight fit (pushes up the tonneau end a little). The rails are leveled and the cover is as far forward as possible. Any one else experience this?

i think i know what you mean. i have a Gator velcro roll up. i need to unlatch the lever on the left side, where it is, and lift it slightly, before i can close the tailgate or it will hit it. i worry that someone other than me will slam it some day and break it. other than that, i love it.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I installed a Gator EFX hard tri-fold on my 25 Lariat in November. The fit is supposed to be tight at the tailgate. In my case I actually placed wooden shims between the C clamp and the bed sidewall. That kept the rails from pulling down, keeping them level. It doesn't sound like you need to do that however. In any event, I really can't imagine a scenario where one would need to close the clover with the tailgate up in the first place. You can't open the cover with the gate up so closing it is the process in reverse. The slight lift you describe is to benefit the "seal"at the gate, but even that does not prevent some leakage. As I discovered when I ran it through the TOUCH LESS car wash to test it. It's not terrible but some water intrusion does occur and I don't think there is any good solution for that. I think your cover fits as designed.
