I'm hoping I can work with the Service Manager and get them to pay for half the remainder of the the costs.

Disagree. Very much.
Filing small claims requires a fee. $97.00 dollars in my locale. Then take off work for court. All with no guarantee of success.
Really not a wise use of time or money. People are very quick to say "Sue them".

OP absolutely should not have to pay for this repair. However, paying $200 cost share is preferrable to paying $950.

The court fees are recoverable if you win your case. If you have a strong case, which I believe this is, most larger companies will settle without ever showing up in court. They typically have to pay an attorney to fight these cases, which quickly adds up to $1K+, so they aren't going to screw around unless they are pretty sure they are going to win.

Ford covered about 3/4 of the repair and the Dealer is covering the rest of it.
