As my join date shows, I've been watching the Maverick since it was first announced. I had a bit of FOMO because I could've ordered the $19,999 Maverick in '21 but I held off. I've owned several Fords, and was a previous tech. Those experiences taught me to wait if possible for the midcycle refresh on a Ford. That and the $20K Maverick was a little too base-model, even for me. No power mirrors, no rear proximity sensors, no basic cruise control.
I initially wanted an XLT Lux for the power seat. That and every media and order guide said that the basic climate control was single-zone manual, and the XLT Lux had dual-zone automatic. But after having an opportunity to drive both an XLT Lux and an XLT base, I realized that the regular 6-way manual seats were more than sufficient. And the base climate control is actually single-zone automatic, so that basically solidified that I should get an XLT base.
I also dislike torsion beam rear suspension. I also really wanted hybrid AWD or PHEV AWD and I was sure one of those two were in the works. 4K tow was a bonus. Only thing I somewhat regularly tow is the 6x12 U-Haul, which is 1900lbs empty, so 2K tow is a little tight. The sheer amount of early recalls helped validate my decision to hold off.
Then the midcycle refresh came around last year, and hybrid AWD 4K tow was available, and that also adds power mirrors, BLIS, and rear proximity sensors to the XL. That made the XL exactly what I wanted; nothing more and nothing less. So I figured I'd wait a couple more years and hope to score an XL hybrid AWD 4K tow on the second-hand market once the lease returns start showing up.
I was casually browsing for that configuration on the primary market to see what my chances were gonna look like in a few years, when I came across a couple units at Corwin Ford in Reno, NV. I figured the deal was too good to be true and had a bunch of strings attached. So naturally I put in an inquiry just to see how many DIAs or other markups there were gonna be.
Well long story short, the offer was legit. The car had some DIAs (front side window tint, PPF door edge guards and door cup guards) that we came to an impasse on for about a week. They finally said they wouldn't charge me for the DIAs. I ended up getting a '26 XL hybrid AWD 4K tow, no other options, 6.8 miles on it, for $28,067 before TTL. MSRP is $32,500. A "newer" '26 XL hybrid AWD 4K tow MSRP is $33,750.
I've been watching the second-hand market and one-year lease return hybrid AWD 4k tow are starting to hit the market with 10-15k miles for $30k or so, so I'm pretty pleased with the deal.
Only significant mods I plan on doing are the factory drop-in bedliner and an ARE DCU. Other than that...incidental mods will probably just be Mabett splash guards, center console organizer, glove box damper, matte screen protector, and a cheap set of seat covers just so I can slide stuff on the seats without worrying about ripping the upholstery.
