After only 300 give or take miles on my new 25 Maverick, almost all the driver assist (hill start, collision alert, ABS, AWD, check engine, etc) came on. Ford service tells me it's a cracked wheel speed sensor and not covered under warrantee since I must have hit something. According to the diagnostics, it started on the day I drove on a dirt road. Not very pleased to be paying for a part on a brand new vehicle, but it is not a defect. Anybody else have an issue like this? Sound like a design issue if a sensor can be broken by driving on a dirt road. Or could it have been a factory defect that was triggered from the muddy road?? Hard to prove.

In many parts of the country, gravel roads are very predominant. I have not seen anyone else have this problem on the forum. Seems this would have come up before if it is a design problem. How do they know it was caused by a rock and was not defective? Just because you were on a dirt road? I would contact Ford about it. You may have to pay but it sure will leave a bitter taste in your mouth and it would affect my future purchase of any Ford product. If they replace it and it does not solve the problem, they need to understand that they should expect to pay you for your time and trouble.

Just out of curiosity, is the same dealer who sold you the Maverick?

I'm no expert, but "cracked wheel speed sensor" sounds crazy.
I am basing that on the location of the sensors (FWD in my case).

I can see something hitting the wiring harness and maybe causing a wiring issue.
I only have experience with my FWD hybrid, but replacing the sensors is a quick and easy job.

At the very least, go around and feel that the harness plug is secure as possible into the sensor itself and has not come loose.

On gravel roads daily, 11,000 miles and no issues.
But I take it easy, I don’t throw rocks up under there.
Don’t want to damage the cardboard covers.

Yes, it is the same dealership.

The sensor was definitely cracked with exposed raw wire. No idea how that could have happened, even the mechanic was puzzled. Hopefully that doesn't happen again.

What insane bs to make you pay for that! I also have a failed wheel motion sensor at only 4500 miles. Warranty repair done last week. But there is still an underlying issue because all the alarms came back yesterday. Going into dealer for followup on Tues.

I've driven at least hundreds of miles on forest service roads with my Maverick and have beat the crap out of it. I have never cracked the sensor itself, but I did destroy the wiring. That wiring is exposed for the last 6-12" with NOTHING but black tape. Built Ford Rough, baby!

Fixed it myself with butt connectors, heat shrink, and a heat gun in 30 minutes for pennies on the dollar.

If it's the sensor itself, they're like $30 and plug and play.
