Okay, pretty sure that's NOT the reason. The tank is pressurized for leak detection. If your tank holds pressure, that means no leaks, which equals no evaporative emissions.I haven't looked at what the tank pressure reading is on my Maverick but presumably it's being pumped to higher than the natural equilibrium vapor pressure. This makes it harder for the gasoline to to transition from liquid to gas.
When I first saw this topic I thought why not add more batteries and a plug? For short trips in town, you could use little or no gasoline. Then I saw online Ford is street testing a PHEV version of the Maverick. Yay! May be 2024 model year; but looks like it is coming. Would work well for me. I have 10 miles one-way commutes.
