I haven't looked at what the tank pressure reading is on my Maverick but presumably it's being pumped to higher than the natural equilibrium vapor pressure. This makes it harder for the gasoline to to transition from liquid to gas.

Okay, pretty sure that's NOT the reason. The tank is pressurized for leak detection. If your tank holds pressure, that means no leaks, which equals no evaporative emissions.

When I first saw this topic I thought why not add more batteries and a plug? For short trips in town, you could use little or no gasoline. Then I saw online Ford is street testing a PHEV version of the Maverick. Yay! May be 2024 model year; but looks like it is coming. Would work well for me. I have 10 miles one-way commutes.

This is not an aftermarket part..... You are putting a gas tank designed for one vehicle into another. This modification could certainly lead to denial of some warranty claims.

Hybrid tank is more than just a tank. Gas tank for hybrid has MSRP of $1,189.62. Gas tank for 2.0 EB has MSRP of $431.72.

Ford makes new vehicles.
New Vehicles have warranties.
Warranties can require the owner to perform scheduled maintenance procedures and install new parts (like oil changes, filters, belts, etc).

What the Magnusson act does is that it prevents Ford from requiring the owner to USE ONLY FORD PARTS in meeting the scheduled maintenance requirements of the warranty.
Worded another way: Ford's warranty can require that you replace your oil every 5k miles, but Ford cannot claim you violated the warranty if you used castrol oil instead of Ford oil.
I think the act was generally intended as an anti-monopoly/pro-free-market competition bill, to prevent the big automakers from being the only parts option for consumers. Without it, you would be locked into buying everything from ford for at least the duration of your warranty, or else risk losing your warranty.

I read posts on auto forums and some guys seem to think they can do any modification to their new vehicles and they will be protected by Magnusson. That would be absurd. Imagine putting a new cam, twin turbos, and supercharger on a new engine. The engine now has 200 more HP. The cooling system and drivetrain are not designed for it. Would Ford have to honor your warranty if you started overheating and blowing head gaskets? Of course not.

But at the same time, adding twin turbos would not void the warranty on the radio, seats, rusting paint, etc. Burden of proof is on Ford to PROVE your "modification" CAUSED your claim.
