You actually want to protect it? You'll need to have it sandblasted and ceramic coated. I'd guess at least $500 to do it right. Any other paint is going to burn off, especially when bathed in salt during the winter.

Me? I'd let it rust. It'll take many years to actually rust thru, if it ever does. It is a low-grade stainless steel, and is covered under your powertrain warranty, which is 5 years / 50,000 miles (could be longer - I read 8/80 above).

What does a new exhaust system cost, anyways? Probably about what it'll cost to have it ceramic coated.
And…………..You would now have an expensive coating on low quality SS.
It might actually rust out faster, from the inside out.

Personal experience is great but still irrelevant- Tiny sample size.
How about one more sample Too' Tone.. Just received my new 2024 Lariat.. and guess what.. Rust was already starting on the muffler around entrance and exit pipe. I used a rust dissolver, removed the surface rust and painted the whole muffler and some of the pipes with High Temp paint. Better than nothin'. Will undercoat everything b4 winter too. Everyone has the same idea in Pittsburgh. Could not get an appt until early November.

I’ve never seen a newer car with a rusty exhaust like that. There are types of SS that will rust on up to food grade specs. If this were my truck it would be fixed or gone. My 22 FX4 doesn’t look like this. Is this more prevalent on hybrids due to lower temperatures and possibly more condensation because of intermittent operation? Our 100,000 mile C-Max didn’t look like this.
Yes I sold it for this and the other stated problems listed in this forum, funky brakes, dying battery, etc.

Bummer, I’m thinking south Texas doesn’t put the same stuff on the roads in the winter, not that that’s an excuse.
