So I installed the kayak mounts today on the Elevate racks, test fitted the kayak and then took the racks off for use later. But what was interesting, I had both racks off in 1 minute., using my 1/2 inch socket and impact Dewalt. I'm not going to be riding with these everyday, but I am concerned about someone stealing them. I was thinking of running a thin wire cable around one leg of the post, under the corner of the cover down to the tie down. I have small cables from my studio lights I use to use. Or like a cheap bike lock cable, just something of a visual deterrent. Any ideas?

Been debating the same thing, since I just installed the rack myself. I looked around my neighborhood and half the trucks on the street have racks. Haven't seen one stolen yet in all the years I've lived here.

I had the same concern as soon as I saw how easy the racks were to install and remove. I looked into the tri-groove nut above in this thread, but its base diameter is at least as large as the well in which the nut goes (and its special driver is even larger). Instead, I found the following product, which fits the T-bolt and the well perfectly:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DDJGVBGY

The key can be driven by a 12mm socket, and I just use a standard socket wrench rather than an impact driver. The nuts are unfinished, so I painted mine black. I used one nut per upright. The reviews of this product are not entirely glowing, but I think the nuts will serve the purpose of slowing down or deterring a rack thief. The close confines of the well should also limit the tampering that can be done.

CTM, I did buy those splined nuts and they wouldn't fit with the driver. I just purchased these, haven't used them yet. Thanks for the heads up.
