Does the plain jane XL, without 360 still have the rear view camera....brochure is VERY vague... I believe it DOES, but the brochure wants you to think you need to order 360 to get rear view camera. thanks!

I just went on the Ford site and see exactly what you posted about. Yeah that’s confusing.
The 100A package on the XL includes the items it lists within the package as copilot 360 features. Don’t be thinking it comes with copilot 360 because it doesn’t, that’s an option, but it does have the listed features.

I’m glad you asked that question because surely you’re not the only one that would have been puzzled.

All cars and light trucks manufactured for sale in the U.S. since May 1, 2018, have to come with backup cameras, thanks to a federal requirement.

I was considering not adding 360 on my XL, but that’s the only way to get the rear cross traffic alert which is a must have IMO.

I agree. And it gives the XL power mirrors, which is pretty essential for safety.

The XLT also has some features of copilot 360 without actually adding it. I wanted a sliding rear window originally, it wont add it without adding copilot 360. The opening is quite small, so I decided it wasnt worth the added $500 expense for copilot 360 just to have the manual sliding rear window. Quite a few with the sliding rear window have stated it blocks some of the rear view mirror giving you a blind spot on both edges of the mirror. If theres a slim chance i decide I want it later on, it shouldn't be too expensive to just have an auto glass place glue one in.

For the record, the sliding rear window does not create any sort of blind spot - the vertical bars are too skinny to do this. Yes they are present, but they aren't blocking anything out in an appreciable way.

If I decide on one later on, I have a friend who runs an auto glass place, I can just get one installed. Will be cheaper than the $500 required for copilot 360 just to pay another $150 for the window upgrade.

I have an XLT without co-pilot 360 and got a manual sliding rear window. It was $155.

I have XL Eco with the standard crash avoidance it comes with. Its way off. Went off 3 times in the 1400 miles I drove it. Twice there was nothing and once the other car was so far in front of me, there wasn’t an issue to avoid.

Interesting reading all the wants and needs for safety equipment.

As a small child our old Mercury had no seatbelts so my dad would put a phone book for me to sit on, remember when they were about 3 inches thick. Now I could see out the windows. Or I would stand on the floor in front of the front seat and hold on by putting my fingers in the defroster vents. Metal dashboards BTW.
On longer trips I would lay on the rear package deck under the rear window.
How did my generation ever survive?

Some didn't. I was just discussing this with my son the other day. In my childhood, I knew 4 kids I went to school with die in auto accidents. Elementary through high school. My son who graduated from high school 5 years ago didn't lose any friends, though in many accidents.

Not scientific by any means, of course. But nothing is more true to someone than their own personal experiences.

I used to ride around playing with toys and matchbox cars in the back hatch of our Mercury station wagon. Like it was a big playpen. It was great. I remember a few emergency stops, where I went flying into the upright seat back. It was kinda fun. But it could have been very deadly, in an accident.

We weren't tougher for it, we were ignorant and lucky. I praise God for my luck. And we are probably doing risky things today we don't think anything of now, that future generations will think we were crazy.
