Blather blather blather.
I want a hybrid Maverick. I'm pretty sure I want one. I read various threads on this excellent forum - one day I gotta have one! - next day I'm just not so sure...
Wonderful rig, the hybrid Maverick. Great for back roads! Excellent in town! Comfy on the highway! Gas mileage in town terrific! Mileage on the highway about what my MINI gets! Haul or tow anything I have in mind.
Iffy rig, the hybrid Maverick. Take forever plus a month to get one. Dealers want to add $10,000 to MSRP. Price for '23 might take a huge jump over '22, maybe justified.
And then there are things that might go wrong. Mostly electrical things. Maybe straightforward fixes, if a mechanic will look at the problem. If the mechanic knows what to look for. Maybe dealers' mechanics won't even look at the problem for months! What's up with that?
So. I want a hybrid Maverick. Around September 15th I'd like to have my wife onboard! She likes Area 51, so there's a good start! Must have cruise control, want trailer hitch. Heated seats are nice. Engine heater helpful part of the year. I'll just have to see how things look when it's time to order.
In the meantime I'll keep reading these posts. Good stuff.

Looks like "used" prices on these might be starting to drop (along with the rest of the used car market). but 10% off of crazy is still crazy.

I'm totally comfortable driving FWD over mountains and in the winter, but lots of people in Montana prefer AWD. (my parents had to get their RAV4 in AZ as no dealers in MT had a FWD option).

It might be unavailable in 23 as an AWD and hybrid. that combo wasn't an option for 22 MY. just something to consider if it's important to you.

Wishing you luck with your calculus as you balance your options on these decisions.

Until I can make it from San Antonio to El Paso on a single charge, I’m out on an electric car 😉
The Maverick is a hybrid not a electric vehicle. It will make it to El Paso. You will most likely have to stop for gasoline on the way.

I know that Oz, but I was just talking about a straight up electric car (some are hoping for an all electric Mav in '24). Being from Texas, you are well aware of need to cover at least 500 miles on a charge. I spoke with a Ford rep and told him that when they can do that, it will be a game changer: Especially in Texas ;)

I fully agree. Unless you are planning to use it for just local commuting, the current EV's are not practical here. In some places you can drive for hours without seeing a gas station. Charging stations less.

I was absolutely shocked at how many Teslas I saw in Virginia. But people drive 30miles/day at most. Wyoming is similar to Texas- long distances between McDonald's. :)

Slightly off topic, and I am well aware how big Texas is, Ontario is about 1 and a 1/2 bigger but I love teasing my Texan friends re that fact. Anyways, looks to me there are lots of charging stations in Texas, including between El Paso and San Antonio (at least 4 level 3 stations along rte 10). Have a look at this list which is likely outdated by now and there are more.

True they do exist but they are few and far between.

Things are starting to change for the full electric vehicles. You may still find your charging station but when you arrive all the charging cables are gone because some crook cut them off and sold them for the copper in them. Now, the isolated charging stations will have to have some kind of security measure if they want to keep operating.

Really?? Up here I have never seen or heard of that issue... No wonder you guys all carry guns.. Armed guard at every charging station. That is just nuts.....

Test drive one. You can not make up your mind without that. If you want a good price go through long macarthur in kansas - they will drop ship to your local dealer if you local dealer doesn't want to guarantee a good price.

It will take a while to get. Be patient.

Oh, there are some charging stations (8 or 10 in Fort Stockton), but you have to sit there for at least 15-20 minutes to get enough of a partial charge to make it on to El Paso (assuming you don't have to wait in line for a charger). I do a five minute gas and go when traveling ;)
