For me, this is a dealership doing what it can to reach out and thank their customers. Most dealerships will just send a post card thanking you for your business. Being a car nut, I would've gone to just talk about my Maverick, look at other cars and talk with other gear heads.

In my area (Chicagoland) the new car dealer trade association holds a BBQ for the Troops event every July, to benefit the USO. Not every dealer participates, and some go further than others, but it's a good opportunity to get a burger or hot dog and contribute to a good cause.

Well, I see it as just a form of advertising in keeping the dealership in mind for a next purchase or maintenance experience. I keep in mind that some people buy multiple vehicles within a set time-frame such as two years. I'm seeing that some don't keep vehicles very long and those sorts of people are their target marketing. So, my bottom line is that it is a chance to sell something.

Getcha on property, feed you a crappy cheap hot dog and try to sell you another car.
It’s not rocket science.
They’d never do that if sales were good.
They’re in a slump, tariffs are scaring people.
