I've often wondered why small diesel engines aren't more of a thing here in the states. My brother had a golf diesel that got 40+ MPGs in the 90s. Combine that with biodiesel and it seems like a great solution.

🤷‍♂️

Back to the thread... They aren't a thing because BIG gas companies.

New conspiracy:

Ford is actually building all of the trucks, and had most built. unfortunately they were sitting in a warehouse that was taken over by a Mexican drug cartel. Ransom is 100 pesos, but Ford is worried about the bottom line.

Because the particulate emission requirements means that it requires a lot of expensive ancillary equipment to make them suitably clean enough for modern standards. (Unless you cheat like VW, but see how that worked out in the end) Also repairing those parts and feeding it DEF end up being pricey in the long run, too. So your cheap diesel car is no longer so cheap when you can more easily just make it a hybrid without all of the diesel market baggage.

This is true....mostly. the other is the actual demand of the diesel. Is it enough to warrant the extra up front cost. Also the conspiracy theory....Diesels last too damn long which means less new car sales

Diesels have a poor reputation regarding emissions, its more expensive per gallon (People are bad at doing miles per dollar math), and there's been some pretty recent scandals regarding diesel emissions.

It is only more expensive if you do not plan to keep it. In the long run Diesels are much cheaper. High upfront and low back end vs low up front and high back end

🤷‍♂️ It seems like if they can make it work in the EU, they should be able to make it work here. But that probably my ignorant bliss speaking.

The CEO, who’s got a Greek-god complex, decided that delaying the hybrid would just be good fun to watch. Testing the mortals and watching them squirm is always a good time. As an added benefit, he can blame the delay on plagues, storms, and lesser gods.

Ford decided to use tortilla chips and the crew keeps eating them all during lunch breaks.

OR.... Something happened with the new in house electric motor/eCVT transmission... Notice how the posts from the transmission insider stopped at 139/week? 🤔

That's because it's not accelerated at all. For whatever reason, is not working. I bet the transmission that's delivered is not the same as the pre production models. They're going to go back to out sourcing the motors because the in house model failed to meet standards somehow (too expensive or just blew up.)

The reason Ford has been able to produce the maverick from the ground up so quickly in this time of chip shortages is the same reason they are built in Mexico. Ford has secretly developed a way to use authentic Mexican tortilla chips in place of the old computer style chips? Remember the whole oreo deal? Odd right? Well they tried Oreos first but it just didn’t work and Ford had to keep their commitment to Nabisco. That’s why the engineers had so many Oreos to eat. Truth be told there is a rumor floating around Mexico that the maverick engine covers never get installed because they have been using them for salsa bowls along the production line 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ford started this forum and quickly realized the longer they delay hybrid production, the higher the visitor numbers goes up, thus, the ad revenue is greater. Ford is making more money from the forum than they can on a vehicle they are selling near the cost of manufacturing.

may as well re-name this thread the "Mamboman is convinced Ford can't produce the new eCVT but wants cover from other people so he doesn't sound like a broken record" thread.
